The Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator (GBSA) announced on December 12 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) to strengthen AI and digital ethics capabilities and to promote a culture of responsible technology use.
The two organizations pursued this agreement to reinforce ethical standards such as fairness, security, transparency, and accountability, which industries increasingly demand amid the rapid spread of generative AI, and to support companies and developers in building trust-based capabilities for technology utilization.
The signing ceremony took place at NIA’s Seoul office, with around ten executives from both organizations in attendance, including Chang-ha Hyun, Standing Executive Director of Future New Industries at GBSA, and Kyung-mi Jang, Vice President of NIA. During the meeting, participants discussed ways to build an education-based framework linking industry, academia, and public institutions. They shared directions for designing practice-oriented cooperation models that local companies and developers can apply directly to their work.
Under the agreement, the two institutions agreed to cooperate to provide AI and digital ethics education for companies and developers in Pangyo Techno Valley, jointly plan and develop educational content, and build cooperative networks that support inclusive digital transformation. Through this collaboration, they committed to working together to spread a culture of ethical AI use across industries.
Based on this agreement, GBSA plans to foster Pangyo Techno Valley as a central hub for AI and digital ethics education and to expand educational programs into areas such as digital safety, data ethics, and guidelines for the use of generative AI. GBSA also plans to develop and offer case-based education, hands-on curricula, and programs with expanded corporate participation to address AI-related issues that repeatedly arise across industries.
Through joint development of educational content and infrastructure linkage, the two organizations aim to enhance the quality and accessibility of education and further strengthen a cooperative platform that supports the creation of a sustainable, ethical AI ecosystem.
Ahead of the agreement, GBSA and NIA jointly held an “AI Great Transformation Open Seminar” at the Pangyo Startup Campus on December 10 to gather opinions. Experts, including Sedol Lee, Distinguished Professor at UNIST, Chang-bae Jeon, Chairman of the International Association for AI Ethics, and Gil-young Song, participated in lectures and discussions on human-centered AI use, industry-specific ethical issues, and practical response strategies.
Chang-ha Hyun, Standing Executive Director of Future New Industries at GBSA, said, “In the era of AI, responsible use matters as much as technological speed,” and added, “Through this agreement, we will strengthen an ethics education foundation that companies and developers can immediately apply in the field, and support a sustainable technology ecosystem in Gyeonggi Province.”
