Naver (CEO Soo Yeon Choi) and Seoul National University Hospital (President Young Tae Kim) announced the medical-specialized LLM ‘Kmed.ai’ at the ‘Medical AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) Event,’ held at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 28th of last month. Naver’s Board Chairman Haejin Lee and CEO Soo Yeon Choi attended, alongside Vice Minister of Science and Technology Bae Gyeong-hoon, Second Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Hyung-hoon, and Seoul National University Hospital President Young Tae Kim.
At the event, Naver announced that it had developed ‘Kmed.ai,’ a Korean-language-based medical-specialized LLM (Large Language Model), in collaboration with Seoul National University Hospital. This model is expected to understand clinical data and assist medical professionals in their decision-making. It demonstrated world-class medical specialization and expertise by achieving an average score of 96.4 in the 2025 Korean Medical Licensing Examination (KMLE).
The medical-specialized LLM ‘Kmed.ai,’ jointly presented by Naver and Seoul National University Hospital, was trained on SNUH ClinicalQA, Korean medical laws, and various clinical department guidelines. Furthermore, based on active feedback from Seoul National University Hospital’s medical staff, it is regarded as a successful case of medical sovereign AI that deeply understands the Korean medical industry, its knowledge, and clinical situations.
Concurrently, Naver announced the development of a medical-specialized agent platform, creating an environment where all members of Seoul National University Hospital can enhance work efficiency with AI assistance. Starting with document creation and diagnostic support, it is expected to perform more advanced tasks, with plans to add various features in the future to improve safety and accuracy.
In his welcoming remarks, Naver Chairman Haejin Lee stated, “I believe that the medical-specialized LLM jointly developed by Naver and Seoul National University Hospital will protect crucial data that must be safest and most accurate for medical professionals, patients, and healthcare institutions alike, while also increasing the efficiency of medical staff and patient satisfaction.” He added, “We hope it becomes a successful example of medical sovereign AI that profoundly understands Korea’s medical industry, clinical situations, and medical laws.”
Young Tae Kim, President of Seoul National University Hospital, commented, “Medical AI is a national strategic technology, and this achievement marks the first step and a significant milestone in establishing Korea’s medical sovereign AI.” He further stated, “Seoul National University Hospital will accelerate its transition to an AI-powered smart hospital to enhance patient safety and healthcare service quality, contributing to strengthening domestic medical AI competitiveness and global advancement.”
Meanwhile, Naver has introduced various services, including a smart survey that automatically converts online patient history interviews into medical terminology for EMR recording, and Patient Summary, which classifies, organizes, and analyzes past examination results for easy viewing. The company also continues to invest in global healthcare companies such as JNPMEDI, InBody, and CENACLE.
