Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced on the 28th that it would launch ‘ChatGPT for Kakao,’ a service that lets users access ChatGPT directly within KakaoTalk.
Developed through close collaboration with OpenAI, ‘ChatGPT for Kakao’ integrates Kakao’s platform and various services with OpenAI’s latest technology to deliver an innovative AI experience. With ChatGPT now available inside KakaoTalk, 50 million users can easily experience AI in their everyday lives.
KakaoTalk users can access ChatGPT by clicking the ChatGPT button at the top of the chat tab. It enables users to conveniently interact with ChatGPT inside KakaoTalk—from simple questions to complex tasks—just like chatting with a friend. Users can also share ChatGPT’s answers in chatrooms or ask it questions directly during conversations.
Users who already have an OpenAI account can use it to access ChatGPT for Kakao. New users can easily sign up with their Kakao accounts or try the service without registration or login. However, as with ChatGPT’s free version, usage limits apply for non-subscribers.
ChatGPT for Kakao also offers an enhanced experience through ‘Kakao Tools,’ an AI agent that connects with various Kakao services. At launch, Kakao Tools includes Kakao Map, KakaoTalk Reservation, KakaoTalk Gift, and Melon. It automatically links relevant services to provide the best possible response to user requests. For example, when a user asks, “Show me places near Hapjeong Station that sell croffles,” Kakao Tools will use Kakao Map to display detailed locations and information.
Kakao Tools is designed to make AI more useful in everyday life, initially integrating Kakao and Kakao Group services before expanding through partnerships with external platforms to build a broader ecosystem.
ChatGPT for Kakao prioritizes users’ data sovereignty. Users can freely choose whether to save chat history or allow AI to learn from their conversations, and all personal data is securely protected under Kakao’s and ChatGPT’s privacy policies.
To celebrate the launch, Kakao is offering a subscription promotion. Users who newly subscribe to ChatGPT’s paid plan, ‘ChatGPT Plus,’ through KakaoTalk will receive a one-month cashback after their third month of payment. The promotion runs until December 31 and may end early if subscription limits are reached.
Yongha Yoo, Head of Kakao’s AI Agent Platform, said, “With ChatGPT for Kakao, we expect AI accessibility and utilization to increase dramatically as anyone can now experience AI more easily. Through this, Kakao will usher in the era of ‘Everyday AI,’ where AI becomes not just a technology but a part of daily life.”
