Nexon (Co-CEOs Daehyun Kang and Jungwook Kim) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Institute of Korean Language to collaborate on developing and promoting Korean language education content based on its free block-coding platform ‘HelloMaple.’
The MOU aims to create an engaging environment where people can improve their Korean language proficiency while having fun, in response to recent issues such as declining literacy rates and the frequent use of foreign words. Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to develop game-based Korean learning content and carry out joint projects to promote a correct and accessible language culture.
Earlier in September, Nexon and the National Institute of the Korean Language launched their first collaboration with the release of the new Korean education content, “Run! Korean Running,” on HelloMaple. Targeted at elementary and middle school students, Nexon developed educational content to enhance Korean language skills. The National Institute of Korean Language reviewed all quiz questions and refined the use of foreign loanwords throughout the content.
On October 18, Nexon and the National Institute of Korean Language also operated a joint booth at the “Korean Language Dictation Contest,” part of the “Hangeul Hanmadang 2025” event organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Hwi-young Chae). The booth featured a play zone for the “Run! Korean Running” game, where visitors could enjoy the game and solve quizzes, with the first 100 participants receiving HelloMaple-themed souvenirs.
Minseok Shin, General Director at Nexon, said, “We are delighted to provide children with an opportunity to learn proper Korean expressions in a fun and engaging way through this collaboration. We will continue to introduce diverse content that combines learning and play to expand the educational value of gaming.”
A representative from the National Institute of Korean Language said, “We hope this initiative will help children and teenagers appreciate the value of the Korean language in today’s digital environment. We will continue our efforts to promote an accessible and proper language culture through ongoing cooperation.”
Launched in September last year, ‘HelloMaple’ is a block-coding platform based on the MapleStory IP that helps users easily and enjoyably learn the basics of coding. It is continuously used in digital education through collaborations with schools and educational institutions nationwide.
