NCSOFT (co-CEOs Taekjin Kim and Byung-Moo Park) has announced the transformation of its team behind Throne and Liberty into a specialized game development studio, aiming to expand the game further into a global IP.
The newly created studio model enhances the team’s development expertise, creativity, and agility, enabling faster decision-making processes. The studio’s formation will further strengthen Throne and Liberty’s global services, which will continue seamlessly without disruption. The ultimate goal is establishing Throne and Liberty as a leading global MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) IP.
The new development studio will tentatively be named ‘Studio X,’ and Moonyoung Choi, the head of Throne and Liberty development, will lead it.
Since its global launch on October 1, Throne and Liberty has seen strong success in markets across North America, Europe, and other regions. Within the first week, the game attracted 3 million global users, with a cumulative playtime exceeding 24 million hours. As of now, the international user base has surpassed 4 million. Throne and Liberty ranked as the top seller on Steam globally upon its release and continues to perform well in sales rankings across the U.S., Japan, Canada, France, and Germany.
In a letter to Amazon Games, NCSOFT co-CEOs stated, “With the new specialized studio, Throne and Liberty will focus on high-quality game development in a more creative and dynamic environment. We look forward to evolving into an innovative global game studio through our close partnership with Amazon Games.”
NCSOFT and Amazon Games launched Throne and Liberty globally on October 1 across North, Central, and South America, Europe, Oceania, and Japan. The game is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
