Nexon (co-CEOs Kang Dae-hyun and Kim Wook) recently announced plans to establish a new subsidiary called Mint Rocket.
By establishing Mint Rocket, Nexon aims to expand the autonomy of Mint Rocket, known for its creative and rapid development ethos, and to establish a smoother global collaboration environment while fostering an innovative development culture.
Mint Rocket is a game sub-brand launched by Nexon in 2022, aimed at developing fresh games through bold and experimental challenges that depart from conventional development norms. Its first development, ‘Dave the Diver,’ launched last year, achieved significant success by being the first domestic single-package game to surpass 4 million units in cumulative sales. It won an award in the Game Design category at the ‘BAFTA Game Awards 2024’, and continues to maintain an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam.
Based on these achievements, Mint Rocket, promoted to a headquarters this past April, is planned to be spun off into a separate corporation to enhance its development power and further sophisticate its development culture. Mint Rocket will focus on simplifying work procedures and improving autonomy as its core direction, pursuing more rapid development of unique, small-scale projects. The new subsidiary, Mint Rocket, will be a 100% owned subsidiary of Nexon Korea, with Hwang Jae-ho, the head of Mint Rocket, slated to be the inaugural CEO.
Mint Rocket also plans to implement various systemic and organizational changes suited to its mission, including a new reward system to motivate its members. The plan includes rewards based on post-launch performance and providing ample rewards to outstanding personnel during the development process.
Hwang Jae-ho, the designated head of the new subsidiary Mint Rocket, stated, “The corporate spin-off is a choice made to build an environment that can agilely respond to market conditions while best preserving the identity of Mint Rocket. Together with the team members, I will do my utmost to focus entirely on development in this new setting and produce the second and third ‘Dave the Diver.’”
