MORAI, a company specializing in autonomous driving simulation (run by Jung Jiwon and Hong Joon), sponsored the aMAP Stride Championship competition, a digital twin-based virtual environment simulation category, during the 2023 HL Mando & HL Klemove Autonomous Mobility Competition, in collaboration with the Korea Road Traffic Authority.

The competition, hosted by HL Mando, HL Klemove, and Halla University, aims to foster future mobility talents through inter-university exchanges in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It seeks to discover skilled professionals in future mobility by utilizing the knowledge, technology, and infrastructure of companies involved in autonomous driving research and development.

The autonomous mobility competition took place in 2022 using the infrastructure of the Korea Road Traffic Authority’s driver’s license examination facility. In 2023, it was held on November 18 at the Yongin Driver’s License Examination Facility. On December 14, an award ceremony honoring the achievements of the winning teams was held at Halla University’s Art Hall. Representatives from the Korea Road Traffic Authority, HL Mando, Halla University, MORAI, and other stakeholders participated in the ceremony.

In this edition of the aMAP Stride Championship, the FOSCAR team from Kookmin University claimed the top prize. Other notable awardees include the KUUVe team from Kookmin University (Best Award), the BISA team from Keimyung University (Excellence Award), the Nalsdals team from Konkuk University (Encouragement Award), and the FOSCAR team from Kookmin University (Special Award).

MORAI, overseeing the operation of the aMAP Stride Championship, conducted the autonomous driving mobility competition based on the driver’s license evaluation method. Students competed to validate the capabilities of their autonomous driving algorithms in a virtual environment created using MORAI’s digital twin technology. The participating teams navigated various missions in the virtual driver’s license examination facility, including lane compliance, hill stops, starts, perpendicular courses, intersections, S-courses, T-shape parking, high-speed driving, and unexpected situations, replicating tasks performed by human drivers in real driver’s license examinations. Through these missions, the competition assessed the ability of autonomous vehicles to respond to diverse situations, evaluating their capabilities in perception, judgment, and control at each stage.

The company’s representative said, “MORAI is pleased to sponsor the 2023 HL Mando & HL Klemove Autonomous Mobility Competition and to see it come to a successful conclusion. Just as a driver needs an authorized driver’s license to drive, an autonomous vehicle needs to be verified to operate. Against this backdrop, we implemented a digital twin of a real driver’s license and conducted the mission with the concept of an autonomous vehicle taking the driver’s license test. We hope that all the students who participated had the opportunity to learn about autonomous driving technology. We hope this competition will serve as an example of the possibilities offered by autonomous driving simulation in preparation for evaluating autonomous vehicles.”

The company, whose specialty is autonomous driving simulation, located in Pangyo Techno Valley, recently hosted the SHARK (Seongnam Hightech Autonomous Road Framework) Autonomous Driving Competition in November in collaboration with the Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency.
