A delegation from Egypt’s Regulatory Reform and Development Activity (ERRADA) on July 21 toured Pangyo Techno Valley, located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, to gain insights into its successful startup fostering and incubation strategies.
The delegation, featuring Tamer Taha, the Senior Adviser to Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation, was received by a representative from the Gyeonggi Business and Science Accelerator at the Startup Campus within Pangyo Techno Valley. The representative offered an overview of the Valley and guided the visitors through its workspaces and the Digital Open Lab.
Prior to their Korean visit, the delegation expressed a keen interest in Pangyo Techno Valley, particularly its renowned reputation as an innovation and entrepreneurship hub.
During the Q&A session, the delegation posed a series of questions on topics including the distribution of government subsidies, Pangyo Techno Valley’s establishment and development plan, the commitment to allocate 30% of total space to startups, support from relevant organizations for self-driving vehicle services growth, and the test beds for autonomous driving technologies like Zero City.
Furthermore, the delegation showed interest in the Startup Campus’s facilities and services during their tour, especially appreciating the provision of free office space for both domestic and foreign startups.
Tamer Taha, the Senior Adviser to Egypt’s Department of International Cooperation and Relations, commended the concentration of startups in the area, attributing it to concerted efforts by the government and local authorities. “The Startup Campus’s specialized startup spaces, such as the Digital Open Lab, are also noteworthy. I look forward to increased collaboration and networking among the Egyptian government, the Korean government, and Pangyo Techno Valley, opening doors for businesses in each country to broaden their scope and attract investment. In Egypt, we have a similar setup in ‘Smart Village, Smart City’, home to numerous ICT-related companies, and we anticipate various partnerships with them,” Taha remarked.
The Egyptian delegation’s visit was under the umbrella of the “Economic Development Experience Sharing Project,” a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the Korea Development Institute (KDI), and the Egyptian government. The project’s aim is to impart Korea’s economic development experience to Egypt’s relevant ministries.
